ZimDaily can exclusively reveal that his father was a Malawian immigrant and Mugabe has not forgiven him for dumping his mother, Bona, for another woman in Bulawayo.

During an exclusive interview over the Easter holidays, with elderly Sekuru Gondo (not real name), one of Bona's surviving relatives, it emerged Mugabe's father was born Masuzyo Matibili (pronounced Masuzho) but because the white settler Native Commissioner in Mutoko could not spell it, let alone pronounce it properly, renamed him Gabriel Matibili.

Masuzyo, when translated into Shona, means Nhamo and Nhamo was Mugabe's late son's name. He died in Ghana in the Sixties, her mother, the late Sally Mugabe's native country.

Matibili's father was Chatunga. Chatunga is also Mugabe's youngest son's name. It is a common name among the Tumbukas in Malawi.

Matibili worked briefly in Mutoko before moving to Norton where he met Bona and the two got married and had children --- Amon, Robert, Sabina, Albert and Bridget before he went to Bulawayo in search of work and never returned to see his family.

According to Sekuru Gondo, Bona and her five children left the Norton farm where Matibili had left her for rural Zvimba where one of her uncles, a Karigamombe, was staying. Karigamombe was one of the villagers helping the Jesuits set up a mission at Kutama.

In Bulawayo, Matibili met another woman with whom he had several sons, among them a Stanley Matibiri, once a human resources manager with Lever Brothers, now Unilever, who occasionally donated birthday cakes on behalf of his company to Mugabe on his birthdays during the early nineties, and Ntombana, ZESA chairman Sydney Gata's wife.

He died later and was buried in Bulawayo. During this time Mugabe rarely saw his father and they were not on speaking terms for neglecting his family. Robert and his siblings were assisted in their day to day life by a Mugabe, who worked for the Jesuits at Kutama, hence the adoption of the name Mugabe. 

"He was like a father to them. He literally provided them with everything," said Sekuru Gondo during the interview. 

Amon, Robert Mugabe's elder brother, maintained the name Matibiri and that is why his son, Innocent, who is one of the police deputy commissioners, and his daughter, Chipo, who is a magistrate in Harare, are known by the surname Matibiri, a bastardised version of the Tumbuka name, Matibili.

The new revelations will leave many in authority with a lot of egg on their faces. The government enacted a law that virtually stripped Zimbabweans of foreign descent their nationality unless they renounced their claim to any foreign citizenship.

That was meant to deny many their right to vote in general elections in 2000 because ZANU PF feared they were going to vote for the opposition MDC. Some Zimbabweans have successfully challenged the law saying they cannot be forced to renounce citizenships they have never had.

Mugabe has on several occasions derogatory described Zimbabweans of foreign descent as "totemless". Ironically, he tops the list of "totemless" Zimbabweans, followed by his nephews and niece --- Leo Mugabe, Patrick and Sarudzai Zhuwao ---Sabina's children.

Nowonder this dude cant think straight. Mugabe is cursed. He has lived a life in denial. He has not accepted his real self. His ancestors are angry at him. He is not a mugabe. He is not a Zezuru either. Matibili, his real surname, needs to welcome amadlozi akibo. He needs to denounce the Mugabe surname. He has betrayed his family. He needs to make peace with his real family. He was adopted. I could see from his face. The dude is so ugly to be Zimbabwean. No ofence to malawians but we know how them malawians look like Mugabe. I have seen these guy (malawians) in corner streets and veranders sewing chipped trousers. They look like mugabe. I know Shonas can be pitch black and ugly but Mugabe is worse guys. At least we know who he is. Not to be a tribalist but that explains why he hates the better looking and Pretty Ndebele tribe. He has not forgiven his dad because he ran away with a Ndebele/Matebeleland woman. Its upto to you to judge but read between the lines.

Mugabe is definately a "Blantyre". The proper Mugabes come from Masvingo but they are not at all related to Robert. He is definately related to Kamuzu Banda mudhara uyu, thats why he was close to Cecilia Kadzamira, Banda's lifelong girlfriend. Had "Mugabe" been a good leader, all this would have been swept under the carpet. Hunhubu hwake hwamuparira.

Magabe Is Still Zimbabwean

Regardless if your story is true or not, of which the later is the case, Mugabe is still Zimbabwean. He was born and bred in Zim and he led Zimbabwe with great honor and dignity. He is certainly among the most distinguished sons of Zimbabwe. Do you think coming up with fake Breaking News that Mugabe is Malawian after 27 years in power is going to change anything? Some people are missing the point. Mugabe denied a lot of people from voting in 2000 and 2003 because they had parents born outside Zimbabwe. Now he should not be allowed to stand in the next election on the same token. It's a shame when you have a leader who is embarassed of his nationality. Please somebody file a case against this dictator in the supreme court and have his passport confiscated.

We have known for a long time while Kamuzu was still alive that Mugabe is of Malawian origin. He commands a lot of respect amongst the current rulers in the Malawian government primarily because he is one of them.That's why he visits Malawi every now and again especially when he feels that his hold on power is under threat to enhance the magic powers he inherited. Mugabe is so sure just like day follows light that Zimbabweans will never remove him from power because this is exactly what Kamuzu Banda the provider did. His magical covenant is vested in the horse tail of eternity (muchira wamuyaya) which Kamuzu used to carry around and unless you Zimbabweans can find it and exorcise the oath made, forget removing Mugabe.You are going to carry him in and out of his office due to old age while he exercises authority over you. On the other hand we Malawians feel he was brought amongst you as punishment for despising Malawians for such a long time. We are humble, black, ugly, hard working and stupid according to you, the sentiments I have experienced all my life in Zimbabwe and exactly the same I read here now. Guys be focused on wealth

I have been reading people's comments from the Tidily, and I am sickened by the diminished intelligence. People are entitled to their viewpoints, yes, but why not create a forum for wealth creation or investments instead of wasting your valuable energy in digging Mugabe' origins. For people in the Diaspora let me remind you that this is about economic liberation; the reality is there is no way you can replicate the liberation struggle of the 1960s and 1970s from the Diaspora. The world has changed. Make the most of the opportunity in Diaspora to create wealth. You do not feed on human rights, after all the countries in the World including UK and USA violate human rights. Some of us are not attached to ZANU (PF) or MDC, and by the time things fall into place in Zimbabwe we will be showing you what hard work can bring. I have just joined a Ghanaian investment club in the UK just to porch some ideas and I can tell you they are making wonders with their investments back home. But Zimbabweans are driven by jealous, and they fight clueless wars. You do not need human rights to create wealth. We can do it ourselves; we do not need Mugabe or Tsvangirai to create wealth from the Diaspora.

Proof Mugabe is Zimbabwean

All that is, has been before and will continue to be now and forever more.What am I saying? Mugabe has done nothing new.Look at the bible.Daniel was an immigrant in Babylon and he became a prime minister there.Joseph was an immigrant in Egypt but he became the vice-Pharaoh there. Now these went to these countries as fully grown men but climbed the political ladders to become invincible leaders. Now Robert's father is the one who was an immigrant not his children. Now stay with me let me highlight something.... children born in Italy, and living there legally, can become Italian citizens at age 18-19 without proving that they gave up their old citizenship. The Netherlands similarly permits persons born in the country to become Dutch citizens at 18 without proving that they have given up their old citizenship. In the UK, children born of legally resident foreign parents can automatically become UK citizens without proving they gave up their old citizenship.Now if the countries have such flexible policies who are we to think otherwise, this is human rights catastrophy to its lowest terms. Hamunyare mese mese.The only sensible comment is from Wilberforce Majaji all of you are just political hynas. Zimbabweans are cowards,weak and are quick to compromise.Remember Muzorewa he prostituted our country calling it Zimbabwe-Rodhesia that is weakness in its fullest form.But Robert whom you call malawian is bold as a lion.He is a principled man.Principle is principle it can never be sacrificed on the alter of compromise or convenience. It is common knowledge that Robert will not resign. He is resilient and elusive like Osama.So i say to Bush and Blair swallow your pride and accept that your tactics have not worked on Mugabe.So receive him as the president of Zimbabwe and release the money in full 630 million pounds.
