Oppah Muchinguri, one of the cabinet ministers in Zimbabwe, was endowed with a body any man could die for. But when it came to matters of the heart, she was not so lucky.


In the seventies she co-habited with now Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe, as his wife, Sally, preferred staying in the United Kingdom and Ghana while her husband directed the war.

When everyone in the liberation struggle in Mozambique thought wedding bells were about to ring, Sally rejoined her husband for that memorable homecoming in early 1980. Oppah was back to square one.

And, thereafter, Sally kept a hawk's eye on her, thwarting any chance of Oppah getting involved with Mugabe again.

In the eighties, she had a string of lovers, among them, notable businessmen and the star seemed to shine on her later when one of her lovers, Tapuwa Rushesha, hitched her. The union resulted in two lovely daughters.

Around the time she was married to Rushesha, Mugabe was secretly seeing a married woman, Grace Marufu, and sired two children, Bona and Robert Jnr. Her husband, Stanley Goreraza, was abroad, furthering his education. Mugabe eventually forcibly married her and they had a son, Chatunga, after solemnising the union.

Meanwhile, Oppah's marriage to Rushesha ran into problems. Tapuwa was snatched away from her by Tambudzai Jonhera, daughter of veteran broadcaster, Job Jonhera. Rushesha too, had Tambudzai snatched away from him by a scribe called Godfrey Mutizwa and the two are now living in South Africa.

Now a single mother, Oppah is back to where she was at the beginning, except that she now has the company of two lovely girls --- her daughters with Tapuwa Rushesha. But, she is reportedly having a "wonderful time" with tomboys, young enough to pass as her daughters' lovers.

In 2004, Oppah caused a storm when she went to State House and bashed her rival, Grace, for "uncomplimentary language".

Observers, however, say it was more of a statement that "I was there before you" than a reaction to anything offensive from the First Lady.

Now that the first couple's marriage is reportedly in tatters, Oppah can only wait and pray that one day, she will have her Bob back.

You guys who are busy insulting each other what's wrong. The story is very relevant. Oppah is the minister of gender and employment creation. She was once governor on Manicaland and things didn't work. As a minister many people are without employment and more women are assaulted. What an empowerment?
