The first Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) secretary-general, the late Albert Mugabe, was a man who had endeared himself to the workers and employers alike.

Workers liked him because the labour body represented them well in work-related disputes while employers liked his rationale approach to problems.

Unlike the then labour minister Kumbirai Kangai who loved fixing wages irrespective of production, Albert Mugabe preferred negotiating with the employers for better pay for workers.

Then came the bombshell: the respected trade unionist had died. The terse Herald report did not give any clue to how he had died, save quoting the police report which said his body had been found floating in the swimming  pool at his home and investigations were continuing.

Foul play was suspected, though, and with all the security apparatus at their disposal, they "could not find the killer", even up to this day.

This writer was among the many Zimbabweans who were puzzled by his death and the deafening silence from the authorities.

The then Prime Minister Robert Mugabe, his elder brother, said very little about his death. Robert Mugabe, who is well known for speechifying over other people's bodies and using funerals as stages from which to attack his opponents, was surprisingly quiet.

However, more than two decades down the line, this writer found somebody to confirm what has been said all along in hushed tones: his elder brother Robert killed him. The reason? He had complied with a family arrangement to sire children on behalf of his brother who, by then could not do so naturally.

According to Sekuru Gondo (not real name), one of the few surviving relatives of Bona Mugabe, Robert and Albert's mother, who lives in Zvimba communal lands, when Robert Mugabe arrived from Mozambique with his late wife Sally, they had no children.

Their only son, Nhamo, had long back died in Ghana. Sally was, of course, with her daughter from an earlier liaison, Patricia Hayfron. She is still living in Zimbabwe and now goes by her husband's surname, Bekele.

Elders in Zvimba wanted their "son" who was now running the country to have children of his own. They spoke to Sally who agreed to the plan and Albert obliged.

"When Robert (Mugabe) found out," said Sekuru Gondo, "he was livid and wanted nothing more than the termination of the pregnancy."

So, Sally was immediately dispatched to China to end the life that was starting in her womb and returned after three weeks without it.

Meanwhile, Robert Mugabe ordered his younger brother  killed for "fulfilling what the elderly folk in Zvimba had asked him to do."

You pic of bob for this article is one in a million it looks so hilarious that such a scrawny and demented looking man can be called president of our beautiful country. Oh Zimbos look how this man pulls up his falling trousers symbolic of how he fights to hold on to power even though it, like his trousers continues to fall. This is the look of someone with dementia - there is nothing smooth or classy about how he is doing it. He looks totally and utterlly powerless and out of control - KAROMBE KEMUDHARA!!!

this article does not give us anything new and is not well researched, how was he killed? The idea is to give us news kwete izvi anyway if he killed his own brother his day of doom will come.Try to give us something juicy nent time.

but seriously

how did mugabe then sire his current children bona and the others.we know sally had renal failure well advanced by the time she came to zim and one of the first things to go in renal disease is fertility. therefore she was the one most likely the infertile one. Why should facts come between a good story but unless you answer those questions you or sekuru Gondo or both are lying though the gaps in your teeth (mavende). Those current Mugabe boys look like him and unless you are saying they are from the same man who is a relative then I belive they are his. respectfully mike
